Window view "Heimaklettur"

A good friend of mine asked me if I could paint our Heimaklett looking through her window where she was staying last summer.  I said I would give it a try but knew it would be a challenging job to make it look like it was seen through glass, but I had to have a go.

This is my idea drawn up with a charcoal.

The first ground laid.
The progress.  I can see I already had the colors too strong so have to gray them up a bit ....

Expressionism of Still Life

Felt like doing some painting today so set up a still life with glass, vase and some and fruit, the intention was to work on broken lines, I used both brush and palette knife for affects.

My Art chosen by art.365.is for the year 2015 Calendar!

The Challenge end.
I did not make it to enter paintings for the last three days of the the month
so  will enter this in make up for it and to brag about myself.

And now I have to brag!

This painting of mine was chosen by Art.365.is to be in their year 2015 Calendar,
where an art work from individual artist appears for each month of the year.
http://www.art365.is/  I was also one of the many artists chosen for the year 2014.

I painted this boat while in Richard Robinson´s workshop, see link to his site below.

Day 27 - Eiðisdrangar

Another one of Eiðisdrangar, a moody grey day today but had fun painting it while I sat in my car.
The time flew by so two hours later I decided to stop.

Day 11, 12 and 13 - Smáeyjar in blue/grey

This one was a commission for my nephew but was the wrong view after all so have to start again and do Stórhöfði and Suðurey which is ok as I can have this one for my next exhibition.

Day 7- En Plein Air - Suðurey II

Here is another one of Suðurey in a cooler hues as the day was not as hot as the previous day.

Day 6 - En Plein Air- Suðurey

Suðurey done in one hour.
After I stopped I notched that I made it too squarish and also got a great criticism from Michael from TCA which twicked me paint another one in more correct measuring.

Broken Light

This is my second project with The complete Artist
This had to be a cube with broken colors, I did about three layers before I was satisfied with it.
It is so exiting to follow what other artists are doing and get to comment on their work and also receive comment from them.
Here is the online workshop which is still open.

Morning glow

The Complete Artist
I am a member of this terrific website where Richard is our unbelievable talented teacher, he gives us a project to work on every month.  Tis painting I did was to express "broken light".  I received a very favorable comment from Richard, to my great pleasure!
And of course I had to brag about it.

The old ship yard

Old and New
I painted this painting for a friend of mine as a thank you gift.
His work place shows there with the "S" on the wall, the name of his business is Áhaldaleigan, which translates to "rental of various equipments".  The old boats are the old timers up on the abandoned shipyard which was our play ground in the olden days.  The mountain is our new Eldfell which came up in last eruption 1973.  So this painting is telling the old and the new.
I hope you enjoy.

The Day of the Seamen

The Seamen Day
Last Sunday was the day of the year where Icelanders honor all seamen.
On tis day also was decided to have an auction and collect money for a good purpose.  Some of the island artists were asked to contribute to the event which we did gladly.  Quite many paintings sold for a good price and mine there included.
The seamen were very pleased with the outcome.

Here is the painting that I painted, it is of two young men learning the robes from the old guy.

Today we honor all Seamen.

Today we honor all seamen.

We go to church to honor them and their families and remember the lost ones by placing a flower wreath at the statue of a seaman.
It was a wonderful day.
Sadly I forgot my camera so am showing one of my painting here instead.  The idea of this painting came from my childhood memory like so many of my paintings.

Summer in Vestmannaeyjar

WIP

Second stage

Complete!
I thought I might share with you my latest painting.
A friend and an uncle of mine asked me to do a painting for him and I thought it might be nice to paint from west of the island and have it in summer colors.
I used mainly brushes but in the foreground I used my palette knife plus a little touch on the Elephant, which is so obvious in the cliff
This is oil on stretched canvas, size 30x60cm.
Well, I have delivered the painting and my uncle was very happy with it and he has it in his lounge room to look at when he is resting.

I hope you enjoy reeding and looking at this my viewers and friends.

Sharing Secrets

Winter in Iceland

Here is one of my newest small oil painting on stretched canvas size 20x20x3.5cm.
I had this image in my head from childhood days when all the kids were out playing and enjoying the snow.
I tried to make it look like it was snowing.  I hope I succeeded?

My little Studio

Posted by PicasaI am trying to fit myself, my computer and my art in a very small 2 x 3 square meter work room, it is   coming along except for my floor easel, I still have to work out how to fit it.  Anyway, I set up my still life and did my little painting in comfort.

The Pier Talk

On the Dock

I got tired of painting landscape so went over to paint an illusion from my head like I do so often.
Workers or Seamen often come to my head and also caring images which I will show you in my next blog.
These guys are of course talking about the latest issue, which is??  Oh well, I will leave that open for now.
This is oil on stretched canvas size 40x30cm
Most of my work is for sale so if there is an interest please don't hesitate to contact me.

A Glorious Morning

South island in morning glory.

It has been a while since I have given myself time to post anything on my blog, mainly because I have been painting for an exhibition,  it was supposed to have been a joint exhibition but now I learned that the other artist wont be able to make it so that makes me come to a stand still at the moment while I rethink my situation.
Anyway, I thought I might show you some of my work and ideas for fun.

This above painting was done in oil with a palette knife over the ground work.

The concept was supposed to be sunrise or sunset, the medium oil and all work measured 30x40 or 40x30cm.
I have used golden colors a lot through my work but also completely opposite hues like cool grayish colors.

I will post more tomorrow and hope you will enjoy and maybe make some comment perhaps.

Exhibition at the Country Market in Hvolsvoll

View from Eidi at Vestmannaeyjar

The exhibition starts at 1. May, Labour Day.
I am working like made to have everything finished in time.  Finished painting the last painting of their local Church and one small one of kids running in autumn colors, it came as an after thought, quite nice if I my say so myself.  I will be showing about 27 small and larger paintings.
The painting above got sold this morning but I may enter it in the show, I am really happy with this one as these are the colors we see so often here in Vestmannaeyjar in the evenings.  It is in a three window carton, glass and frame, very attractive finish, don´t you think?  I took the photo after it had been framed so one can see the reflection in the glass, sorry about that.
I will enter some more photos later.

Here are some of my small paintings that will be on the show.

There had to be some animals in this country show.
